Could Your Church’s Financial Controls Pass a Checkup?

Hello Reader ,

Churches are called to steward resources faithfully. That responsibility includes having practical systems that protect the congregation, its leaders, and the ministry.

As you prepare for year-end, consider these questions:

• Can the same person initiate, approve, and reconcile a transaction?

• Who reviews bank statements and financial reports?

• Are spending and reimbursement approvals documented?

• Does the board receive timely, understandable financial information?

• What happens when a concern is raised?

The goal isn't to assume wrongdoing. It's to build a structure where accountability is part of ordinary ministry operations.

Choose one financial process to review with your leadership team this month. Even a small improvement can strengthen clarity and trust.

Hello Reader , Tomorrow at noon, we’re talking about one of the most important questions in church governance: Who’s in charge? I’ve seen how difficult leadership decisions can become when the pastor, board, congregation, or other leaders have different understandings of who has authority to do what. Or contracts. Or property. Or compliance. Or how your board should handle a particular decision. The challenge is that legal questions rarely arrive according to your schedule. That’s why Faithful...
